Fall Shocking Survey
October 7 All day
Weather permitting, the Wisconsin DNR plans to conduct its fall fish electroshocking survey on Pelican Lake on October 7th.
The survey will take place during the early evening hours and is expected to last just one evening. If you see bright lights close to shore, please give the DNR crew plenty of space and allow them to conduct their work without interruption.
We’ll share the results as soon as they’re available. See our previous survey at the link below.
Pelican Lake Fisheries Survey Report
What is shocking?
Electrofishing, often called “shocking,” is a scientific method the Wisconsin DNR uses to study fish populations in lakes like Pelican Lake. A specialized boat sends a controlled electrical current into the water, temporarily stunning nearby fish so they can be safely captured. Biologists record information such as species, length, weight, and age before returning the fish to the lake. Surveys help the DNR monitor fish populations, growth, reproduction, and overall fishery health. The process is designed to temporarily affect the fish without causing harm, allowing them to be studied without being removed from the lake.
