At its April 27, 2026 board meeting, the Pelican Lake Association heard a new website and communications partnership proposal from Nicolet College, reviewed the 2026 Eurasian watermilfoil management plan, and approved a three-year buoy maintenance contract as the board moves to take over full funding of the buoy program.
Don Schindhelm of Nicolet College presented a communications and website partnership, with student Jennifer assisting on marketing and graphic design and Ted Nelson leading the effort for the PLA; plans include registering the association with nonprofit and business directories, archiving past newsletters, and building out a Communications Committee under Alex Rossman. The Finance Committee was finishing the 2026 amended and 2027 budgets ahead of board approval before the June 6 Annual Meeting, and the Water Quality Committee reviewed four proposed approaches to 2026 Eurasian watermilfoil harvesting, building on the 2025 DNR grant and Onterra’s mapping work.
Committee reports also covered summer fundraising events — the July 11 Ski Show and Cardboard Boat Regatta, and the July 25 Summer Fundraiser — membership standing at 352, ongoing Land Use volunteer projects, and Fish and Wildlife’s new signage at boat landings covering the panfish and walleye regulations. Boating Safety reported a three-year contract with Salty Dog LLC to install, remove, clean, and store the association’s 51 buoys, and the board voted to have the PLA take on the full cost of the buoy program for 2026, supported by a $30,000 fund built from donations and a raffle. Three board seats will open at the June 6 Annual Meeting as Steve Tripp, Pat Schenk, and Bob Mott complete their terms.
