Board of Directors Meeting Minutes — August 18, 2025

Year:

At its August 18, 2025 board meeting, the Pelican Lake Association reported strong fundraising results and a solid financial position, reviewed a lake bathymetric mapping proposal, and set a September 22 special meeting to add new board members under the bylaws’ process for filling vacancies.

The Treasurer reported roughly $197,000 across accounts, including a Legacy Fund of more than $100,000 in certificates of deposit meant to cover two years of operating expenses, plus an anticipated $40,000 in 2027 from the weed-control grant. Membership stood at a reported 454 members. The Finance Committee finalized an updated bid policy requiring committees to consult Finance before spending over $5,000, and the board discussed a proposed sponsor recognition page, contingent on staying within 501(c)(3) rules.

Fundraising reported strong results for the year: the Ski Show netted $4,940, up from $3,687 the prior year; the FunRaiser netted $21,342, up from $17,457; and Member Appreciation netted $2,747. A Meat Raffle, Winterfest, and gun and hunting-blind raffles were in progress or upcoming. Water Quality reported DASH and mechanical harvesting both coming in under budget, Eurasian watermilfoil holding steady rather than expanding, and continued training of Clean Boats/Clean Waters landing monitors. The board also reviewed a lake bathymetric mapping proposal from Cason Land and Water Management, with two pricing options ($20,284 and $12,140) and a list of open questions on deliverables and data access still to be answered.

Under Bylaws §6.03, the board set a Special Meeting for September 22, 2025 to consider adding new directors, with interested members asked to contact President Tripp. Boating Safety planned to meet August 25 to discuss a long-term approach to buoy funding and management.
