Board of Directors Meeting Minutes — October 13, 2025

Year:

At its October 13, 2025 board meeting, the Pelican Lake Association reviewed a strong fall fish survey and CB/CW monitoring season, advanced the new lake survey and Donor Page initiatives, and weighed membership input on long-term Eurasian watermilfoil management ahead of the board taking over full buoy funding.

The Treasurer reported roughly $144,000 across accounts, including $117,000 in CDs and just over $18,000 in checking, with a negative $800 cash figure flagged for clarification. Membership stood at 343 paid to date, with 98 not yet renewed since June and 18 lapsed since June 2024 slated to be dropped at year end; a new membership directory had gone out to all paid members. The Finance Committee’s Donor Page concept — giving levels, a sponsor-vetting policy excluding political sponsorships, and a default statement that undesignated donations support all PLA activities — was approved to move forward.

Water Quality reported a lighter Eurasian watermilfoil season than prior years, with harvesting and DASH costs coming in an estimated $20,000 under budget, and continued advocacy for higher water levels through the WVIC’s 10-year FERC water-level application. A survey of the Water Committee on long-term EWM strategy drew 11 responses from 25 members, with most favoring continued harvesting and DASH over chemical treatment, estimated at $400,000 for the affected acreage. Fish and Wildlife’s fall shocking survey found 80–90 young-of-year fish against a typical 20–30, including a 23-inch smallmouth bass. The new lake survey with Cason was on track for fieldwork by October 17, and Boating Safety continued planning for the board to take on full buoy program costs, funded by donations, fundraising, and a proposed $15 dues increase subject to membership approval.
